“White Cloud” by Alain Ayres

“White Cloud” by Alain Ayres

Carved from Ancaster Stone.

“White Cloud” is a stone sculpture, carved from two tons of Portland Stone. It was made in 1989 when Ayres was working as an artist in residence in Margam Park. One of the sculptures then on display was a bronze work by Henry Moore, and this sculpture has elements of that work contained in it. The form is based on an abstracted cloud, also containing references to human and animal forms. The light coloured stone contrasts with the greenery of its location, and the implications of its form complement the natural and animal scenarios to be found in the Park.
