Become a Volunteer Gardener

Becoming a Volunteer Gardener at Margam Country Park is a fun, rewarding and memorable experience. By joining our community of volunteers you’ll make plenty of new friends, develop new and existing skills and make a big difference at Margam Country Park.

Based in the historic gardens, get green fingers as a volunteer gardener; tasks include planting, pruning, weeding and sowing seeds. If you’re a keen gardener or want hints and tips for your own garden, becoming a volunteer gardener will provide excellent experience and you can learn from our experienced Head Gardener. 

FAQs

It’s up to you!  We only ask for volunteers to give a minimum of 4 hours for each day that they volunteer at the park.

Yes, volunteer roles are open to those aged 18 or over.

Volunteers develop new and existing skills ‘on the job’ and optional training will be provided free of charge when appropriate.

Of course!  Our volunteer roles are varied so there are plenty of suitable tasks for all volunteers, whether you have disabilities or not.

To ensure our volunteers are suitable for the volunteer roles, we telephone or send a short letter to each applicant’s referees just to verify that the applicant has the required attitude and possess any relevant skills.

Your referees can be anyone who knows you and who are not family members.  For example, teachers, previous employers, work colleagues etc.  If you can’t think of two referees then please contact us, we’ll be happy to discuss this with you.

No, volunteers aren't paid for the work they do.

Yes, most of our volunteer training is conducted in-house by our experienced staff.  Additional externally delivered training courses will be provided to volunteers free of charge when appropriate and will be optional. Our volunteers are fully supported by our Head Gardener.
