What Colour?

Fallow deer exhibit the greatest colour variation of all deer species.

  • All four distinct colour types are found in Margam Park.

  • The most common is pale chestnut brown during the summer with prominent white or cream spots. In winter the coat is greyish brown in colour with the spots becoming less distinct. This colour type is known as ‘common’, the other three types are ‘black’, ‘white’ and ‘menil.’
