This course introduces this charismatic group of insects with a range of classroom-based and practical sessions. This course will introduce the group and cover key identification characteristics as well as field survey techniques of both adults and nymphs. We will also study and observe the ecology of dragonflies, their mating strategies and territorial behaviour.
Wendy Harris is a lecturer at Swansea University teaching Entomology and Techniques in Ecology, having an interest in all aspects of ecology and natural history. Previously, Wendy worked as a tutor for the highly successful EU-funded APT Bioscience project, specialising in ecology courses for adults that were accredited by Swansea University. Wendy studied dragonfly territoriality for her PhD and published a number of papers on the subject. She has previously run courses on dragonfly identification and ecology and has presented a talk for WTSWW. Wendy recently filmed with the BBC for their programme Weird World, speaking out about UV reflectance of dragonflies.
